Week 1: The first week is crucial because you just went through surgery. You may find it hard to get used to the changes and adjustments needed for a stable recovery. Your doctor will probably put you on an all-liquid diet for 3-4 days to avoid complications. Although you can walk around in your house from time to time any drastic movements are prohibited. You will also be asked to clean the surgical site twice a day including changing the dressing and bandages. Week 2: The swelling does noticeably go down at this point in the recovery process. You can start to have normal food with semi-solid foods such as mashed vegetables, rice, pasta, etc. It is better to keep your diet lightweight and digestible at this point. The doctor asks you to come for your follow-up appointment right at the beginning of the week. Your stitches, if they are not the dissolvable kind, are removed at this point. Again, patients must stay away from smoking and alcohol. You can go back to work by the end of the second week and resume most of your everyday routine activities.
Week 3: Drastic improvement in the swelling may be seen by the third week. You can resume your everyday activities such as going to work and driving.
Week 4: Any swelling and pain subside by this time. You can go back to your regular life and may also start working out. It is important to ask your doctor before working out to avoid any mishaps.
4-6 months: The full results of the surgery start to appear after 4 to 5 months. Most patients are expected to be in a fully recovered state by the 6th month.
